After nearly two years, significant portions of Elton Park in Corktown are nearly complete. Phase one of the $150 million, multi-building development led by Soave Real Estate will have 151 apartments leasing at various price points, from the moderately affordable to more expensive single-family units.

Corktown’s largest mixed-use development in decades is nearing completion, and WWJ’s Stephanie Davis got an inside look on Tuesday.

Elton Park, located right across from the old Tiger Stadium on the Trumbull Avenue side north of Michigan Avenue, features six buildings, offering 151 apartments and a set of row houses.

After two years, construction on new housing in Corktown is nearly complete.

“We had feedback from quite a variety of people that have said it’s hard to believe these buildings haven’t been here forever,” said Tysen McCarthy, vice president of Soave Real Estate.

Soave Real Estate Group will finish construction on its Elton Park project in Detroit’s Corktown district this spring. The project marks the neighborhood’s largest mixed-use real estate development in decades.

With the rehabilitation of the iconic Checker Cab building in Corktown nearing completion, developers plan to begin filling lofts with residents starting in December.

Today we had the chance to check out the renovation progress being made on the Checker Building in Corktown.

The building is part of the first phase in the Elton Park development by the Soave Real Estate Group. It is located right across the street from the old Tiger Stadium.

By the end of the year, the first group of tenants are expected to move into a $150-million mixed-use development that has transformed the former Checker Cab Building in Corktown.

The corner of Michigan and Trumbull is changing rapidly in Corktown. Recently, the Corner Ballpark opened at the site of the former Tiger Stadium, bringing baseball back to the neighborhood. With the recent news that Ford might just buy and renovate Michigan Central Station, the demand for housing could rise sharply in the next few years. Elton Park—across from the Tiger Stadium site—will bring hundreds of new apartments to the area.

The official groundbreaking for Elton Park, like many others, didn’t actually break ground, but dignitaries and community members ceremoniously shoveled a pile of dirt in a parking lot. Elton Park will be built over a few parking lots and vacant land in Corktown, and Phase One will bring 151 residential units by the end of summer 2018.
