If you haven’t had a chance to visit Corktown lately, you may have missed the walls of murals all along Michigan Avenue and unique installations and sculptures in North Corktown. The “North Corktown Pheasant” honors pheasants that are known to wander around the neighborhood when the weather gets warm. “Monumental Kitty” resides at the foot of the Cochrane pedestrian bridge. Fish Park is a pocket park that’s hosted by the “Trout Perch.” The residents of Cochrane came together to beautify the neighborhood by building the Cochrane birdhouses.
Leaves are falling, Autumn is calling
Detroit is not only a bustling urban area with a vibrant restaurant/shopping/sports/entertainment scene, it also offers some of the state’s most treasured natures sites to visit like Belle Isle; William G. Milliken State Park and Harbor, Eastern Market and the Dequindre Cut Greenway.
The splendor of a Michigan autumn is unmatched, but anyone who has been in this state for even one winter knows that we have limited time to enjoy the fall before the conditions turn frigid. While you’re taking in all the breathtaking aspects of the redesigned neighborhood, don’t forget to support one or more of the hometown teams that are back in action and reopening their doors to fans. Corktown’s Michigan Ave. is a prime spot to grab a bite and a beverage before heading down the road to see the Lions at Ford Field or Pistons or Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena.
