Detroit’s Riverfront Transformation Heads West with More Recreational Experiences

The Detroit Riverfront Conservancy is transforming more abandoned industrial waterfront property into useable recreation and green space that will take over West Riverfront Park at West Jefferson Avenue and Rosa Parks Boulevard. This is the final phase of developing the Detroit Riverfront’s 5.5 mile river enhancement project, just blocks away from Elton Park Corktown, an apartment community in the heart of Detroit’s oldest neighborhood.

This new outdoor space will offer a myriad of experiences for Detroit apartment residents at Elton Park Corktown that can be explored via a short walk or bike ride from their Detroit apartments.
The new 22-acre recreation space will feature a water themed park with a 20-foot bear slide, a water garden lined with trees and greenery and, a sport house pavilion with basketball courts and an open lawn for special events, concerts and movies.

The Delta Dental Play Garden will feature an array of animal structures and play equipment designed to look like otters, beavers and a dragon. It will also have a swimming cove that will become an ice skating rink in winter. Educational programming on wildlife and conservancy will also be offered.
The DTE Foundation Hill will provide an expansive lawn for special events.
